There are no academic jobs going in Zambia which I might apply for though you can do Chemistry degree courses at the Copperbelt University in Kitwe. The university sector there is young and tailored strictly to need. Anyone working in it would be teaching their arse off with very many contact hours. It would take me a long time to get match fit to teach at university level to a standard with which I would personally be comfortable. I could not wing it and bullshit my way through some lecture notes.
We have one problem – we need to downsize.
It is a chronic problem.
It looks like we have manged to survive another winter…
As I have worked out before I am unemployable especially so here because of language. So whatever I might do for extra income has to be led by me. I could tutor “A” levels physics and chemistry. Or I could start a company.
Because of Brexit and the entry income and health requirements of many countries, this means the “where” has to be either France UK or Ireland. I might teach in Ireland or UK.
I have had a lot of dreams hinting at the unknown. This has yet to show any sign of manifesting.
There are a number of key requirements. We need to be in a country with an advanced medical system to deal with Myeloma. Which will come back at some stage. The country needs to be willing to have us. I do not anticipate a red carpet welcome. We are not George and Amal.
In the course of the next few weeks we get some answers.
We will find out if we are allowed to stay in France.
We will find out if the orthopaedic surgeon is keen to go ahead with my left hip or not.
My gut feeling is that he may prefer to wait until I have significant pain in the left hip.
I have a rheumatology appointment soon. The dominant pain is now early morning 4-8 AM lower back pain which eases on getting out of bed and standing up. We shall see what if anything they have to say.
This means that if my assessment about the hip is correct we could move this year. If they will be kind enough to operate, I’ll probably go for it.
Our bungalow nanna-style housing notion is relaxed as I am now more able though we do need to future proof. Which means we may be looking at property for sale sites. There is a problem with so called neo-Breton houses which are many and of which we are not fans. There will be some gasps at décor and at just how much shit some people can cram into a small space.
“All true paths are filled with emptiness…”
We had a look near Cirencester and it seems the wife’s family is actually from Gloucestershire, way back.
If we are looking at the UK it has to be somewhere cheap…
We may need to look at other regions in France.
Because the house sale and purchase process here in France is so tortuous we will probably have to sell and rent for a while…
By mid-March we will have finished the top kitchen and repaired the fence…
If we are staying and I am not getting operated on, I could go for getting two new dental implants done. These could be fitted into the Titanium plugholes in September…
The parameters should be a bit clearer by middle of March…
It is not complicated nor wide of scope…
