At the moment we have been watching a few German language series on Netflix including “Kleo” and “Unfamiliar”. With the aid of English subtitles I am passively revisiting the German language space.
In 2107 I made a company called eigenoptics. I even had a provisional logo:

Back then I made contact with various European and British photonics clusters. The idea being to maybe start a new venture. I checked around about how much “key man” much insurance was for someone like me two years on from a stage 3 colon cancer. For a decent start-up funding round of £2 million the cost was £70,000 a year. I figured no venture capitalist would like the idea of paying that much money for insurance and therefore this was a BIG showstopper.
A whopper showstopper.
Despite being only an “A” level private science tutor I had managed to get an invitation to an invitation only photonics Venture Capital event in Berlin. The idea was to put my toe in the water without doing any pitching, to scope out the lay of the land. I had also contacted the local business development offices. They were excellent and sent me shit loads of documentation together with details on government incentive schemes. I had arranged to meet the photonics development office and the Berlin local government. Efficient, yes they were. It was an entirely pleasurable experience.
When I heard the news about the insurance cost I cancelled my trip and wound up the company. I would have to wait for a few more years before the insurance premium dropped.
My UK based inquiries were more problematic. There was more English cock waving and I got the distinct impression that I was persona non grata or on the bargepole list. The people in Wales were helpful but not well funded.
A brief inquiry of the Delphic font of all wisdom at Google today has come up with Berlin – Cluster Optik und Photonik and Berlin Quantum. There are also links to Venture Capital und Private Equity Gesellschaften in Berlin.
In a dream earlier in the year Strasbourg came up. It is as close to Germany as you can get in France..
What I like most about the German vibe is the practicality. It is way less personal. Less drama and less perfidious Albion.
South Korea has also cropped up in dreams.
I don’t know South Korea at all. So that would be entirely new…There is a link via the old laser company to South Korea…
Watching some of the South Korean TV and movies on Netflix one can conclude that they are as mad as a bag of frogs under some circumstances…
Hmnn…
