Here is this morning’s dream. It has very little to do with “Peaky Blinders” or “MasterChef” which we were watching before going to bed.

The dream starts with me sat at a desk in a first floor apartment in a town or city like setting. On my desk is a pad of A3 paper. I am visualising a three dimensional model of methane.

If you replace one atom of hydrogen with deuterium and another with tritium it should be possible to have some measure of chirality at the nuclear spin level. The hydrogen spins could oppose in one sense in one molecule and in the other sense in another. Although chemically not chiral at the level of spin there is a chirality or handed-ness. Replacement of one hydrogen with a methyl group makes it an isotopic chiral centre of sorts. Aside from certain reaction rates the molecules should be chemically similar, though isotopically chiral.

If you have differing nuclear spins there should be some form of permutation inversion potential for spin switching in a two hydrogen nucleus carbon spin-chiral centre. There would need to be reduced temperature but some kind of chiral nuclear magnetic resonance effect could be there.

One could couple left and right handed pairs in a form of quantum handedness superposition. The dream mentions the name Sally Price in some kind of linked context. {She is a retired Prof from UCL according to Google}

I go onto visualise circularly polarised light which is explained as a time varying quantum superposition of two linearly polarised waves. In a sense optical circular polarisation is already a quantum superposition.

I leave my desk and go to have lunch with the wife in the kitchen. Apparently some people want to hear me speak about my ideas. I am unconvinced because the ideas are not well formed. There is an invite to go to some seminar in Oxford. I am not keen. The wife encourages me to go.

I get in my white car and drive off. Because I am driving West to get to Oxford I conclude that our flat must be in London. This is a notion which I think very weird in the dream. How come we are living in London?

As I drive through the streets I can see no signs. I am driving up and down hills. I know that the main East-West road is at the bottom of the hill and try to drive down towards it. I cannot so I get out of the car and start to scale some buildings carrying the car by its bumper in my right hand. I am descending a rather grand building with an anti-pigeon metal wired covering. The car becomes too heavy. I drop the car and it lands on its wheels. I can see the red leather seats and I jump down from the building and land sat in the driver set. I continue my journey West.

When I get to what seems like an Oxford college, I am late the seminar is already underway. There is a general expectation that I will make a complete hash of any presentation I might make. Some are even looking forward to the spectacle.

Finally I am asked up last to speak. Instead of talking about nuclear spin chirality I talk about permutation – inversion potentials in water clusters. I can see David in the audience. I explain that I have one of David’s lasers in the boot of my car and had planned to have it set up to show them. I have had a “have laser will travel to experiment” mentality and modus. As I continue talking I can see one woman Prof in the audience leaning forward and taking an avid interest. She is slim and younger that me with straight hair. Others say, “this one is for you..” towards the woman. The people start leaving and the two men who have invited me, come with the woman to the front of the room. Nobody else is interested and they are a bit disappointed that I have not fucked up and made a spectacle. We start talking about cluster dissociation energies and that a cluster-molecule could be exited below the dissociation energy but could tunnel through the barrier to dissociate and appear in the ion mass channel.

I mention that I have been thinking about the notion of quantum handedness. I think that there is mileage in left-right superposition states and circular polarisation phenomena. There is more information in a circular qubit. This is good for encryption needing the correct handedness to read keys and offers a better per bit range in quantum computation.

The dream ends and I wonder where the hell did that come from?
