Medical – Mistaken Identity – Language Choice Dream 12-02-2026

Here is the second of last night’s dreaming snippets.

The dream starts in a waiting room of a seemingly English medical practice. I am sat there next to a rack of magazines and a large window sill upon which is a green indoor plant. In walk two nurses, dressed in old fashioned white nurse uniform with little white cardboard “hats” pinned into their hair. They are chatting loudly and are white corpulent of build. One of them is older than the other. They are not strangers to food. The older nurse comes up to me and asks me, “what drives people (you) to strong drink?”

I have never been  much of a spirits sort of person. So I wonder why she is asking me about strong drink. I think. I then say that it is most likely peer influence that pushes one towards strong drink, that or partners. The two nurses look at each other and exchange conspiratory looks. They move through the waiting room and into another room, giggling slightly.

In walks a man who says a loud hello to the receptionist and comes into the waiting room. He is a doctor but somehow is dressed like a catholic priest with black shirt and white dog collar. He is about my age, ruddy of complexion and with unkempt fair hair and balding pate. He claims me as a long lost friend of his. I have never seen him before. He continues to claim me as a friend recounting some exploits we are supposed to have done together. The man is clearly mistaken and possibly intoxicated. I say to him that he is mistaken. He says no he is certain that he remembers me and knows who I am. I say no he is mistaken. He will not accept this. I then say that he is wrong and has mistaken me in French. He is now usure because of the change of language. He gets up and follows the nurses into the room.

I am called into a doctor’s office. The wife comes with me and we sit across the desk from a dark haired query Hispanic woman of around 50 years. Under her white lab coat she has a bright red floral design dress. She has a stethoscope around her neck. She proceeds to ask me what ails me in English. I reply and she looks non-plussed. This goes on for some while. I say to her,

« Nous pouvons parler en français »

At which she relaxes and the consultation continues in French with ease. She writes me a prescription for my normal medication. As we are about to leave she pulls out a packet of cigarettes and takes one for herself. She sparks up. She offers me a cigarette and I decline saying that I don’t smoke. I think it odd that the doctor is smoking in her office.

We then go to a pharmacy in an arcade. It is very busy and the green pharmacy sign outside is bright. There is a queue in the pharmacy. There is a young man and a young woman in lab coats. They see the name on my prescription and try to speak to me in English. They are trying to show off to some of the other customers. The transaction is very slow. So I switch to French  and then everything progresses well and quickly.

The dream ends.

Doctor’s Surgery – Virgo – Castle Keep Dream 26-12-2025

Here is this morning’s dream.

The dream opens with me visiting a very busy unknown general practitioner doctors surgery. I go up to a receptionist and ask for an appointment. The receptionist gives me an appointment. I go outside onto a small verge outside the surgery to take a ‘phone call. I have both ‘phones, the wife’s and mine. I go back inside and the time for the appointment has passed. The doctors are getting together for a practice lunchtime meeting. I show one of the doctors my right wrist and one can see the flesh translucent red around a glowing inner bone structure. She says that I should come back after lunch because she wants to look at my wrist.

I go home for lunch. In the dream I know that our lives and our situation here are quite precarious. It is a reminder to take nothing for granted. Our welcome could change easily. It is a reminder to stay humble and harmless. Again it is a reminder to appreciate everything and take nothing for granted, to have no sense of entitlement whatsoever.

I go home for lunch and the wife wants to know what is going on. I tell her that I have another appointment and that it looked like the practice was having a big conflab about the future. I go back to the doctors and the female doctor from before ushers me into her office. She asks me how long my wrist has been like this quasi-transparent anatomical. How long have I been able to see the bones. I say that it is only recent and it came after a stumble or fall. The reason I came to visit is because it did not pass of its own right.

She is curious and hands me a piece of paper with the Virgo symbol on.

♍︎

The piece of paper is by way of a prescription and I must use it.

I leave the office and walk around to some renovated ruins of a castle keep. Outside the keep but within the castle walls is a small walled are with a lattice work of stones on the ground. Out of these grass is growing. I can see the modern day use as an occasional car park. I can also see the mediaeval use where the walled area was partially grassed over. There are horses there, which are cared for and fed. There are bales of hay and in one corner a shit heap for the waste. I can see the two periods early medieval and modern day co-existing. I can smell the smoke from woodfires from the 12th century.

The dream reiterates not to take anything for granted and it reminds me to look at harmlessness. That I can simply be too much for people.

The dream ends.

Land Title – Medical Exam – Fox Island – Bern Dream 19-11-2025

Here is this morning’s dream.

The dream opens with me sat in an office, part real estate part solicitor. I am sat the other side of the desk to the person whose office it is. He is checking with me if I made inquiries into land titles. He has a mild Aussie accent. I say that yes I made an online inquiry into land to which my father once held title at the Queensland registry office a while back. He says that they are sorry that the search took so long but they are following up on two properties one in the Cairns area and one in Brisbane. He asks to see some identification documents which I show him. He says that he will get back to me soon. He thinks that the Cairns property might still belong to our family.

The scene changes and I am in an ultra modern hospital facility sat in a technical chair. I am with a young male doctor and a young female doctor. They are both wearing lab coats. Together with them is a technician. We are speaking in a mixture of French and English moving between according to our availability of vocabulary. We are in France. They are testing the function of my right lung only. I am being asked to exhale only from that lung and to cough only from that lung. I do this and they are very surprised at the result the lung is functioning way better than they thought. I am coughing up a clear white sputum which they suck with vacuum into a jar. I explain that I have not been coughing much because of the opium painkiller I am taking. They say it is time to take a break for lunch and that they will continue with the left lung later. In the meantime they ask if I will do an ecological survey of the island upon which the hospital finds itself. The hospital is on a hillock reached by a causeway well into a lake. It is a bit like a castle in construction.

I step out of the hospital and into the wooded hillock. They are particularly interested in the fox population. Because I am so quiet I do not disturb the foxes. I come upon one after the other who have demarcated their terrain, their patch, with droppings. I know that they have done this to prevent conflict. I count foxes noting their state of health and big fluffy tails. They are all well. I go down the hillside towards the water and am joined by the ninth fox who trots along by me. He is escorting me off the island and into the water. As I near the water we are charged by a manky tatty old billy goat. I grab him by the horns and lead him into the lake. He continues to try to butt me. But I swim out with the goat by his horns until he is out of his depth. The fox watches on. The goats swims back to land. I swim around the island to where the causeway joins the hospital and there is a small quay and entrance door into the hospital. I am cold from the water and knock the door. A health assistant helps me up and in. She offers me a towel. I come into the building and pick up a brown chocolatey drink from the vending machine. She directs me back to the clinic.

I arrive back and sit in the chair where I am joined by the doctors. They try my drink and like it. I explain that I got it from the vending machine at lake level. I comment that the fox population looks well and healthy. They are now going to start on my left lung. They want to know where to forward the results to. I say that I will be in Switzerland and we can find a Francophone hospital for them to forward my results to. I suggest Fribourg because that is just over the language frontier. There is a CHU (centre hospitalier universitaire) there. I ask them to put Bern into Google maps so that we can look for other French speaking hospitals. I see the large CHU at Bern on the map and say that they will speak French English and German there so there is probably no need to find a specifically French hospital. The young female doctor concurs. She is happy to send her write up to Bern which I can see from the map is quite close to where I live in the city. She says that she had a friend in Geneva and visited Bern a number of times.

The dream ends and I think, “well, the medical theme is not surprising given what is scheduled.”
