Here are this morning’s dreams, they were “realistic” and tending towards the mundane. They come after a bit of a dream drought.
The dream starts at an event for Ph.D. students. It is some kind of personal development course similar to the UK GRAD ones which I used to tutor on. There are loads of students and a tutor team. The course is being led by a younger man with a full head of curly hair. He goes over to a flip chart and starts to call out student names assigning them to a tutor. When this process is finished it is clear that I am surplus to requirements. I do not have a tutor group. I am not needed.
The students are all in plenary. He hands me a small pack with information about one student who is doing InAs MBE for his Ph.D. The lead asks me to engage him about his Ph.D. experience. I start to talk to him about how there is a lot of down time with aging vacuum equipment. He agrees. He also agrees that there are moments of excitement. I broaden the discussion to the whole group about the ups and downs of the Ph.D. experience. They join in and we do a “Mexican wave” of sound “uuuup – dowwwwn”. I ask if it reminds them of Alton Towers. They look quizzical. I say rollercoasters. They all laugh. The room has become very animated. I can still interact with an audience.
I wake up.
The next segment starts in single story beach hut on a tropical island. The beach hut is painted light blue and is weathered by the sun and the sea. The beach is white sand. On the veranda are bamboo chairs. I go inside and find my wife in the bedroom. We take the mattress off the wooden bed to examine the slats. I throw a small piece of pine onto the bed and one of the slats breaks. The wooden frame is broken at one corner. Several of the other slats are in a bad state of repair. The bed is worn out.
Later in the day the landlord arrives to repair the bed. There are two men with him. They get off a boat and walk up the beach carrying planks for the bed. I show the landlord and he says that it is worse than he thought. Never mind, we will fix it.
Dream ends
* Bed is the dreaming symbol for the desire to rest.
