Food Mixer – Pilate – Carrier Pigeon Dream – 18-02-2026

Here is this morning’s short dream.  Here Pilate is a term for unwillingness to take responsibility and only going through the motions

The scene opens with the wife and I visiting a large upmarket store. I am carrying a swish food processor / mixer which we have recently bought. It is not working properly and does not do a good job of blending food. We go to the appropriate department and explain that we would like it fixed, or an alternative model or a refund. It is not our fault that this mixer is not working.

The person behind the desk takes it off us and takes some contact details. He is being officious in French and I can see that he is a reluctant “job’s worth” character.  Instead of wanting to help and please the customer he exudes “put upon” and “do I have to” almost sulking. Moreover he is arrogant towards us because we are “English”. I explain to him that I am very unhappy with the mixer and that they need to sort this out, quick-time. He gets increasingly surly and promises that someone will get in touch with us. From his manner I can tell that this is unlikely. He just wants us away from his desk, out of sight and out of mind. I will not hold my breath.

We go downstairs in the shop and find a cafeteria. We join the line, order and pay for coffees and sit at a table. Suddenly the ‘phone rings and it is someone in the electronic goods department saying that they have “fixed” the mixer. We finish our coffees and head back.

Several people are there around what was our mixer base but with a smaller volume mixing jug. They claim it now works. In a mixture of French and English I explain that the reason that we bought the bigger jug was for the larger volume. We already have a stick mixer for small volumes.

They are upset because they have not instantaneously solved the problem. One of the young Frenchmen puts a blender jug, which I know to be ours, on the mixer base. He claims that it is one from the stores. He loads it with some food including sweet corn. He turns it on and it appears to work. I know it is just rotating the mixture and only part liquifying it. He says, “look it is working”. I say to him that he had better pour the results out into a bowl. This he does. It contains some liquid and mostly unmixed food including sweet corn kernels. I say to him that the mixer does not work. He is adamant that it does. I asks him if the contents look well mixed. He says no. I ask him if he thinks the mixer works. He says yes a bit. We are at an impasse. He just wants us out of his shop and is unable to offer any way forward. We stand there in an awkward silence in which he gets increasingly uncomfortable. His colleagues have disappeared. They do not want to solve the problem they want rid of us. They want to wash their hands of it.

The scene fades. I am left with the strong visual image of a carrier pigeon with a small white message tube tied with two thin white cords to its left leg. The pigeon is in good condition and athletic looking. It is a messenger pigeon.

The dream ends.

Shunning Ostracism & Excommunication – Historical Precedent

I think it both accurate and fair to say that there is much historical precedent for the “human” practices of shunning ostracism  & excommunication. The practices may be official or unofficial, sanctioned by the hierarchy or simply via the social practices unspoken by “they”. Often the shunned is/are way ahead of their times, avantgarde or simply unwilling to submit and comply with some edict or other. Many who refuse to kowtow are ostracised. At the time the ostracism or excommunication is considered thoroughly justified. Imagined divine right is on the side of those doing the exclusions. The hindsight of years or decades looks back in disbelief. “Really? They did that?”

The shunners do not imagine for one moment that shunning is what they are doing, it does not even occur to them and is rarely overtly discussed. There is no thought or empathy for the shunned or ostracised.

“They are not us. We are right!”

Shunning ostracism & excommunication are cult like practices which continue to this day. The threat of these is used to coerce compliance. In Scientology one can even be declared “fair game”! The person ostracised and shunned is the subject of gossip and hearsay, in absentia. No prodigals are allowed.

Someone might read an article on say Galileo in the Inquisition and tut-tut, then talk of Martin Fleischmann or Ranga Dias. One is a hero the others not. If your reputation is tarnished it is very hard to get a research grant funded, the so called objectivity flies out the window. People are way more fickle than they are prepared to admit. Every church, including science, has some form of shunning practice.

Shunning ostracism & excommunication are tools of coercion and manipulation favoured by the status quo, used to assert power over. The fear of these can stifle any dissent. A church “elder” can claim it can prevent some god-fearing person from entering heaven. That is a manipulative mind-fuck of high order.

The historical precedents are extensive and these practises continue to this day, in churches, organisations, political parties, clubs and societies. They even occur in peer groups.

Humans are prone to repeat rather than learn from history. They keep the same old manipulation playbook, Grimoire, and use it over and over…

Being a SEP and More Medical Stuff

I have to say that the French medical system is in no way stingy with the diagnostics. They are and have been very generous. I have been to see a lung specialist this morning and she gave me a full work over. I am due a pulmonary CT scan in around three weeks and this is now booked. This turnaround time of the French system is admirable. Give my history of colon cancer and smoking, there is a tendency not to piss about. I am to have blood tests for allergens, vitamin D, a pneumococcal vaccine and have been given an “pseudo-emergency” prescription for a nebuliser for asthma.  I am going to have an analysis of my sleep including overnight cardiology in May. They haven’t overtly confirmed full blown COPD yet. I have a moderate hypoxia as measured by blood even though my haemoglobin count is a fair way above normal, the latter is genetic apparently. Because I showed evidence for bronchospasm today it means that they will probably not give me a general anaesthetic if they ever operate to replace my hips. Guidelines are closer to rules here.

Since I have been in Brittany, I have been to A&E twice, seen two orthopaedic surgeons, a neurosurgeon, a specialist in sports medicine, a neurosurgeon, a gastroenterologist, a urologist, a lung specialist, a couple of dermatologists, a physiotherapist, an osteopath, a podiatrist, dental surgeons, my own general practitioner and several others. I have had X-rays, CT scans and multiple MRIs. They have been very generous.

It has been said that I have multiple co-morbidities. The French system is a bit reductionist, they send one off to see a specialist, then it is Someone Else’s Problem (SEP) and responsibility, for a while. Eventually somebody might figure out what to do with me. They will have investigated thoroughly.

It feels like I am the parcel in a game of pass the parcel.

In my life I am aware that on multiple occasions I have been seen as a SEP, in some ways a hot potato, even a bit of a leper. Nobody knows what to do with me because I do not fit into any diagnostic social pigeonhole.

To me it is funny, sitting where I am, knowing what I do, that people consider me a SEP.

I have often had this sensation that people see me a problem to somehow be “solved”.

Bizarre…
