Following on from this morning’s dream post I have done a brief search at Espacenet using the key word “Telepathy”. It returned ~ 350 results most of which were nothing to do with the so-called psychic phenomenon. There were “Remote Viewing Amplifiers”, divining rods and pendulums. There were games for measuring ESP and methods for recording spiritualistic contacts. There were claims for psychotropic drugs and concentrating healing energies. There were UK, USA, Chinese, Russian and Korean filings. First pass suggests that few or none went all the way to grant.

Mind to mind transfer is a key part of Zen hagiography and a corner stone of some martial arts. Many “scientific” ESP studies have used cards which are very boring and easily forgotten. Who cares about squares, and wavey lines? Not me. They were bound to fail.

Telepathic interference in so called quantum technologies would be a seismic disruptive technology. Quantum hacking and denial of service would change the landscape. There could be a telepathy arms race.

How might you do it? Well meditate extensively every life for twenty or more lifetimes…

It is not the kind of thing to pitch to a VC as an enabling technology. Where is my ROI?

The idea could be the bones for a sci-fi book, Quantum Computing enabled powerful tech bros undone by geezers with bald heads and saffron robes.

The notion has appealed and I’ll probably struggle to get it out of my head, just like a Rick Astley song…

On reading my dream from this morning the first thing the wife asked was, “Is it patentable? Can you write a patent about this?”

I doubt whether an august body like the Intellectual Property Office or the European EPO would grant such a patent. But you never know, some weird shit does get grant.

The idea of trying to patent telepathic interference of entangled quantum states is attractive. It sounds impossible but also fun. I could have some deep philosophical exchanges with patent examiners.

If the notion of telepathically interfering with quantum superposition states were proven it would be massive, huge, with many implications. Upon which I will not speculate here. To say it would be a game changer is to understate. The dream points at something which has more feasibility than many other experiments in telepathy.

Because I am no longer institutionalised, I cannot apply for government, EPSRC or Quantum Flagship grants to fund research.

It could attract ultra-high risk Venture Capital. I could drop a line to Sequioa to see how it washes. Herr Musk might be interested.

Strangely under the Trump regime the chance of funding “pseudoscience” has increased.

Way back I wrote a Fortran program to calculate Franck Condon overlap integrals between ground and excited electronic states. I can still visualise Hermite polynomial anharmonic oscillator wavefunctions. I had an initial thought about how I might approach the subject.

If the ideas in the dream were manifest there would be interest from many sectors. There is very little chance that I could ever get to do the experiments. Nobody in their right mind would fund them…. …
